BRIDGEGOOD

Where creative talent becomes lasting careers.

Shaun didn't set out to build a nonprofit. He wanted to close a gap.In 2009, that gap was digital access.Today, it's opportunity for all.

The gap

Talent has never been the shortage. Access has. Cost, missing networks, geography, and systems built without many communities in mind still shape who gets to enter design and technology. BRIDGEGOOD changes that equation by keeping programs tuition-free and connecting learning to industry mentors, applied projects, portfolios, and career coaching. The goal is simple: more people with a voice in what gets designed, built, and experienced.

A glimpse of possibility can change a future.

BRIDGEGOOD began before there was a staff, a studio, or a playbook. The first board meeting took place in Shaun’s mother’s furniture store in downtown Oakland. Soon after, the team was teaching digital literacy from a small apartment at First Presbyterian Church of Oakland. BRIDGEGOOD partnered with East Bay Local Development Corporation and later earned studio space in Oakland Chinatown at the Frank G. Mar Building. Each step taught Shaun that access is more than instruction. Workshops became pathways, volunteers became mentors, and learners became professionals. In 2016, a multiyear Google.org grant helped BRIDGEGOOD launch BRIDGE for Social Good, connecting student creatives to paid projects. Today, BRIDGEGOOD is anchored in Jack London Square, still building from the same belief that started it.

The belief

Who gets to design shapes what gets built. Talent is everywhere, but opportunity has to be designed on purpose. BRIDGEGOOD creates the conditions for people to grow through belonging, craft, access, and network.
